Developed by environmental experts and material innovators, recycled poly is a technical fabric made from recycled plastic bottles that otherwise end up in landfills and waterways. By turning those bottles into yarn and fabric, we can now optimize the lifespan of PET* plastic, while also reducing pollution. By choosing recycled poly instead of regular poly, L&S has reduced CO2e emissions by 37%, which averages to about 2.5 lbs of CO2e emissions reduction per Catalina Deluxe bag. In 2019, this choice reduced CO2e emissions by around 41,880 pounds (using assumptions mapped out in the Shen et al (2010) study). At Lo & Sons, we use 600D and 1200D recycled poly, which is water-resistant and super strong. The “D” stands for denier, a measure of yarn thickness. The higher the denier, the thicker the material.
